You will trek mountain gorillas in both Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, spend a full day with chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, track golden monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and explore the wildlife-rich plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park, including the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.
In addition, enjoy a scenic boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and reflect on history at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Throughout this journey, Experiya Tour Company ensures comfort, safety, and a deeply enriching safari experience.
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your driver-guide from Experiya Tour Company will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your guesthouse. Relax after your flight and prepare for the adventure ahead.
After breakfast, depart at 8:30 am for Fort Portal, located approximately 320 kilometers west of Kampala. The scenic drive (about 5 hours) takes you through Mityana, Mubende, and Kyenjojo. Along the way, you’ll enjoy rolling hills, tea plantations, and stunning views of the Rwenzori Mountains.
After lunch in Fort Portal, stretch your legs with a guided walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This community-managed wetland is a paradise for bird lovers, with over 138 recorded species, including the impressive Great Blue Turaco.
You may also encounter several primates such as red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabeys, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys.
Today, you rise early for a unique chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale Forest. Unlike standard trekking, this full-day activity allows you to spend extended time with chimpanzees alongside researchers.
You will observe them as they de-nest in the early morning (around 5:30–6:00 am) and follow them throughout the day as they feed, groom, play, and build new nests for the night. This immersive experience provides deeper insight into chimpanzee behavior and forest ecology.
After breakfast, drive south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The road winds through crater lakes, fertile farmlands, and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
Upon entering the park, keep your camera ready. You may spot Uganda kob, elephants, buffaloes, and other wildlife along the way. After lunch, enjoy an introductory game drive.
Begin your day with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, the park’s prime wildlife viewing area. Lions, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes roam these open savannahs. Since this area is a breeding ground for Uganda kob, predators frequently patrol here.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a 32-kilometer waterway connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. This channel hosts one of Africa’s highest concentrations of hippos. You will also see elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, pelicans, and numerous water birds along the shoreline.
Afterward, return to your lodge for relaxation.
Start your morning with a game drive in the Ishasha sector, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions. Then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via a scenic dirt road (approximately 2–3 hours, depending on conditions).
As you leave the savannah behind, you’ll notice the landscape transform into rolling hills and terraced farmland. By late afternoon, arrive in Buhoma, the gateway to Bwindi.
Today marks one of the most unforgettable moments of your safari. After a briefing at 8:00 am, you will enter the forest with experienced rangers to track a habituated gorilla family.
The trek may take a few hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once you find them, you will spend one magical hour observing their behavior. Watching these gentle giants in their natural habitat is both humbling and awe-inspiring.
In the afternoon, relax at the lodge or explore the nearby community.
After breakfast, travel along scenic back roads toward Kisoro, passing through the Echuya Forest Reserve. The dramatic Virunga Volcanoes dominate the landscape as you approach Mgahinga.
Mgahinga sits at an altitude between 2,227m and 4,127m and features three extinct volcanoes. The park forms part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This morning, track the playful and endangered golden monkeys in Mgahinga’s bamboo forests. These vibrant primates are energetic and photogenic, making the experience lively and rewarding.
After the trek, cross into Rwanda and continue to Musanze, enjoying spectacular views of Lakes Burera and Ruhondo.
After an early breakfast, transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for briefing. You will then trek to find another gorilla family on the Rwandan side of the Virunga Mountains.
Your second trek often feels even more meaningful, as you better understand gorilla behavior and trekking expectations.
Later, transfer to Kigali. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will learn about Rwanda’s history and resilience. Finally, transfer to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your remarkable 10 Days Uganda Rwanda Safari with Experiya Tour Company.
