The 4 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Lake Bunyonyi Safari is one of the most rewarding short safaris in Uganda. Beginning and ending in Kampala, this journey combines the thrill of tracking endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with the tranquillity of Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s most scenic lakes.
From my experience, this safari offers the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. First, you travel through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, crossing the Equator and the rolling hills of southwestern Uganda. Then, you step into the dense rainforest of Bwindi, where you come face-to-face with a mountain gorilla family a moment that is powerful, humbling, and unforgettable. Finally, you slow down at Lake Bunyonyi, where calm waters and terraced hills create the ideal setting to unwind.
Experiya Tour Company carefully designs this safari for budget, mid-range, and luxury travelers. Whether you are a solo adventurer, a couple, or a small group, this experience feels personal and meaningful from start to finish.
Your gorilla trek takes place in one of Bwindi’s four sectors Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, or Rushaga depending on permit availability at the time of booking. Regardless of the sector, the experience remains equally remarkable.

Your safari begins early in the morning when your professional driver-guide from Experiya Tour Company picks you up from your hotel or residence in Kampala. After a short briefing, you begin the scenic drive to southwestern Uganda in a comfortable 4×4 safari vehicle.
About 80 kilometres from Kampala, you stop at the Equator line. Here, you take memorable photographs and enjoy a short demonstration of the famous water experiment. It’s a refreshing break before continuing your journey.
As you drive further south, the landscape transforms beautifully. Rolling hills, long-horned Ankole cattle, banana plantations, and vibrant local markets create a picturesque countryside experience. You stop in Mbarara town for a relaxed lunch at a repute sounds of the forest.
After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters by 8:00 a.m. for a detailed ranger briefing. During this session, the rangers explain gorilla trekking guidelines, safety measures, and conservation efforts.
You are then assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level. Each group includes a maximum of eight trekkers, ensuring a controlled and intimate encounter.
The trek into the dense rainforest may last between two to six hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. The terrain can be steep and muddy; however, the anticipation keeps you motivated.
Finally, you encounter the gorilla family. For one extraordinary hour, you observe them feeding, grooming, playing, and interacting naturally. Watching a silverback protect his family or seeing young gorillas tumble in the undergrowth is deeply moving. In that moment, everything else fades away.
Afterward, you trek back to the starting point, where you receive your gorilla trekking certificate. Your driver-guide then transfers you back to the lodge for relaxation.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Accommodation: Same lodge as Day 1
After breakfast, you leave Bwindi and drive toward Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District. The journey is short but incredibly scenic, passing terraced hills and small villages.
Lake Bunyonyi, meaning “place of many little birds,” is one of Uganda’s most beautiful destinations. The lake is safe for swimming since it has no crocodiles or bilharzia, making it perfect for relaxation.
Upon arrival, you check into your lakeside lodge. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. You may take a guided boat cruise to explore the lake’s historical islands, paddle in a canoe, go swimming, or try zip-lining for a more adventurous experience.
Personally, I find this day peaceful and refreshing after the intensity of gorilla trekking. Watching the sunset over the calm waters feels like the perfect reward.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

On your final day, you enjoy breakfast while taking in the last views of the lake. Soon after, you begin the 8–9 hour drive back to Kampala.
Along the way, you stop for lunch and short breaks as needed. The journey offers one last opportunity to appreciate Uganda’s rolling hills and countryside landscapes.
You arrive in Kampala in the evening, where your driver-guide drops you off at your hotel or preferred destination. At this point, your 4 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking & Lake Bunyonyi Safari with Experiya Tour Company officially concludes, leaving you with memories that will stay with you forever.
