Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, a professional driver guide from Experiya Tour Company will warmly welcome you. After a short briefing about your safari, you will immediately begin your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Along the way, you will enjoy a stopover at Igongo Cultural Centre for lunch. Afterward, you will continue your scenic drive through rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and the stunning Kigezi Highlands. The breathtaking landscapes make the journey as memorable as the destination.
Upon arrival at your lodge, you will check in, relax, enjoy dinner, and spend the night preparing for your first gorilla trekking adventure.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, you will carry your packed lunch and head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During the briefing, officials will explain the rules, regulations, and expectations of gorilla trekking.
Park officials organize visitors into groups of eight people and assign each group a habituated gorilla family. They also allocate a knowledgeable park guide who understands the forest trails and gorilla movements. If you have any physical limitations, you should inform your driver guide in advance so the rangers can assign you a family located closer to the starting point.
The trek can last between 30 minutes and 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. As you hike through the dense forest, you will encounter colorful birds, various primates, plant species, and other wildlife.
Once you locate the gorilla family, you will spend one magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. You will watch mothers breastfeeding, juveniles playing, and silverbacks protecting their groups. This close encounter offers a rare opportunity to learn about their behavior, feeding habits, and social structure while taking unforgettable photographs.
After the experience, you will trek back to the park headquarters, receive a certificate of participation, and return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
On the third day, you will follow a similar morning routine. After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge with your packed lunch and head to the park headquarters for another briefing.
This time, rangers will assign you a different gorilla family, allowing you to compare behaviors, group structures, and personalities between the two families. Once again, you will trek through the forest, enjoying scenic views and wildlife sightings along the way.
When you finally meet the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing and comparing your new experience with the previous day’s encounter. This second trek provides deeper insight into mountain gorilla life and strengthens your appreciation for conservation efforts.
After the trek, you will receive another certificate and then begin your transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District. The drive takes approximately three hours.
Lake Bunyonyi, known as the second deepest lake in Africa, offers stunning scenery and tranquility. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a relaxing boat cruise in a traditional dugout canoe. During the cruise, you will explore some of the lake’s 29 islands while admiring terraced hills, beautiful landscapes, local communities, birds, and small animals.
Later, you will proceed to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala
On the final day, you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of your lodge. Your driver guide from Experiya Tour Company will then begin the journey back to Kampala.
You will stop in Mbarara for lunch and later visit the Uganda Equator crossing for photographs and souvenir shopping. Afterward, you will continue to Kampala or transfer directly to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
