Murchison Falls National Park, located in northwestern Uganda, is a true haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Named after the dramatic Murchison Falls—where the Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge before plunging into a thunderous cascade—the park delivers some of Uganda’s most iconic natural scenes.
This 4-day safari blends scenic drives, rewarding game drives, relaxing boat cruises, and an exhilarating hike to the top of the falls, offering a well-rounded exploration of Uganda’s largest national park. Beginning with a convenient pick-up from Entebbe, the journey unfolds at a comfortable pace, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the landscapes, wildlife, and rhythms of the wild.
Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Entebbe or Entebbe International Airport. After meeting your professional guide, you will set off northwards toward Murchison Falls National Park. The approximately 6–7-hour drive is scenic and engaging, offering views of Uganda’s rolling hills, rural homesteads, roadside markets, and lush countryside. Along the way, you will stop for lunch and short breaks to relax and refresh.
Upon arrival at the park, you will proceed to your lodge for check-in. After some time to unwind, you will head out for a late-afternoon game drive. This introductory drive provides your first encounter with the park’s wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and various antelope species. As the sun sets over the savannah, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, you will depart for a morning game drive, the best time of day to spot predators while they are still active. Your guide will navigate through open savannah, woodland areas, and riverine habitats. During the drive, keep an eye out for lions, leopards, Rothschild giraffes, Uganda kob, Jackson’s hartebeest, oribi, and a wide range of birdlife.
Later in the day, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, the experience shifts from land to water as you embark on a memorable boat cruise along the Nile River toward the base of Murchison Falls. This leisurely cruise brings you close to large pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, and numerous water birds. As the boat approaches the falls, the river narrows dramatically, creating a powerful and awe-inspiring spectacle.
At the base of the falls, you will disembark and begin a guided hike to the top of Murchison Falls. From above, you will witness the Nile crashing through the narrow gorge—a truly breathtaking sight. After the hike, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight rest.
Following breakfast, you will head out for a morning boat cruise toward the Nile Delta, where the river meets Lake Albert. This area is especially famous for birdlife and offers one of the best chances to spot the elusive shoebill stork. Other commonly seen species include the African fish eagle, Goliath heron, cormorants, kingfishers, and herons. Along the shores, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes frequently gather to drink.
After the cruise, you will return to the lodge for lunch. The early afternoon is spent at leisure, allowing you to relax, enjoy the lodge amenities, or take a guided nature walk around the lodge area.
Later in the afternoon, you will set out on an evening game drive, exploring a different section of the park. As temperatures cool, animals become more active, increasing your chances of seeing wildlife preparing for the night. You may spot predators emerging from cover or grazing animals moving into open areas. After the drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
On your final day, enjoy breakfast before checking out of the lodge. You will then begin the journey back to Entebbe, with an important stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This conservation area protects Uganda’s only wild rhinos and plays a vital role in reintroducing the species to the country’s national parks.
At Ziwa, you will take part in a guided rhino tracking experience on foot. Walking through the sanctuary with an experienced ranger allows you to observe these magnificent animals at a safe but close distance while learning about ongoing conservation efforts.
After the rhino experience, you will continue your drive to Entebbe, stopping for lunch along the way. You will arrive in Entebbe in the late afternoon or early evening, where your guide will drop you off at your hotel or at Entebbe International Airport, marking the end of your unforgettable Murchison Falls safari adventure.
This 4-day Murchison Falls safari offers a perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and wildlife encounters, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking a memorable Ugandan safari experience.
