Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up in Kigali – Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Boat Cruise
On the first day of your 2 Days Akagera National Park Safari, your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport. After a short briefing, you will enjoy a brief Kigali city tour, with visits to key attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, local art and craft centers, and Kimironko Market, among others.
After the city tour, you will begin your scenic drive to Akagera National Park, a journey of approximately 2 to 3 hours. Upon arrival, you will head straight for an unforgettable boat cruise on Lake Ihema. During the cruise, you will observe large pods of hippos and crocodiles in the water, spot animals along the lake shores, and enjoy excellent birdwatching opportunities. Common sightings include cormorants, hornbills, kingfishers, and African fish eagles.
After the boat cruise, you will transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Optional activity: Sport fishing in Akagera National Park (available at an extra cost).
Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Departure to Kigali
After an early breakfast, you will set out for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. This is the best time to spot wildlife as animals are most active in the early hours. You may encounter buffaloes, waterbucks, rhinos, elephants, bushbucks, zebras, impalas, topi, oribi, and giraffes. Additionally, you will look out for predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas as they conclude their morning hunts.
Following the game drive, you will exit the park and begin the return journey to Kigali, with an en-route lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Kigali, your driver-guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or at any preferred location in the city.
